Sara Walker joined the Hebrew Academy staff in August 2018. She graduated from The University of Connecticut School of Family Studies with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education. After teaching Pre-K in Manchester and Bloomfield for 2 years, she completed her Master’s of Education and obtained state certification in Pre-k-3 Integrated Special Education. She was offered a position teaching in the Early Childhood program at The University of Hartford Magnet School, a C.R.E.C interdistrict magnet school with a focus on Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory. Ms. Walker’s experience with C.R.E.C. merged perfectly with her belief that children do not all learn in the same way and that the best way to ensure that children are learning is to teach to and through multiple domains. Her instructional style borrows ideas from the Waldorf and Reggio Emilia methods with Emergent Curriculum guiding instruction. She never forgets that in pre-k, the child is the curriculum and learning is a fun and natural process. She can be found hiking with her dog or trying to play guitar when she is not getting messy with preschoolers.
