“Like the clay in the hand of the potter…” so begins a famous Yom Kippur poem. Sixth graders at Sigel Hebrew Academy visited Greenleaf Pottery in South Windsor to see the magical whirl of the wheel transform a lump of clay into a beautiful bowl. In their Language Arts class, the students are reading “A Single Shard” by Linda Sue Park. The book is about a 13 year old orphan boy who dreams of becoming a master potter. The pages were brought to life when the owner of Greenleaf Pottery, John Macomber, deftly made a beautiful vase appear before the students’ eyes! Students will try their own hands at changing potential into reality with clay in their art class back at school.
