Hebrew Language

hebrew-lang

The teaching of Hebrew begins with our preschoolers, who are exposed to an environment that is rich in oral language and song. In kindergarten, the curriculum encourages mastery of letter recognition and beginning reading as well as the development of a substantial repertoire of key words and phrases.

In the lower grades, students begin to master reading and writing skills, through an extensive spiraled Hebrew language series using the “immersion” theory entitled “Tel Am”. By the time they reach middle school, language lessons are conducted almost entirely in Hebrew. In the upper grades, students are encouraged to express themselves in written and oral Hebrew. Integrated within the Hebrew language program is the study of the land and State of Israel—it’s history, culture and people.

Israel Independence Day, is one of the highlights of the school calendar. Our Eighth Grade departs on a two-week study tour to Israel, in which they receive hands-on experience using the learning that took place at the Hebrew Academy during their attendance, while the remainder of the school is imvolved in all day learning programs centered around the land of Israel..
