Honor Roll, Nachas or Disciplinary Calls

HONOR BOARDS

(Located outside the music room on the 1^st landing)

1. The papers displayed on the Honor Board at the Hebrew Academy reflect student work which merits special attention and honor.  Each teacher selects the contribution of his/her class and places it on the board periodically.
2. The criteria for selection includes one of the following:
   • Excellence of scholarship
   • Creativity
   • Improvement
   • Work above and beyond what is required
   • Effort

These various criteria are used in order to avoid giving such honor repeatedly to the same few students of each class.

3. The papers for these Boards are neither contrived nor especially prepared for it.  The work reflects actual activities in the class and includes the teachers’ corrections wherever necessary.
4. There are two Honor Bulletin Boards – one for grades 2-4 and  one for grades 5-8.   Both are located at the second floor stair well.

HONOR ROLL, NACHAS OR DISCIPLINARY CALLS

A student who attains an A or B average on his Report Card will be placed on our A or B Honor Roll respectively. All subjects, including “Specials,” are included to determine the placement for the A or B Honor Roll. Letters indicating the child’s success will be sent to the students and parents and will be entered into his/her permanent record. Additionally, our teachers make “nachas” calls. These are calls by teachers telling you of how well or of something special your child has done. So don’t always be alarmed by a call from your child’s teacher; it might be good news. On the other hand, a student in grades 5 and up who is doing poorly in any subject will also receive a phone call indicating his/her difficulty. Such calls should be acted upon immediately by the student with parental guidance to avoid possible failure. Parents who wish to be notified when their child falls below a certain grade level should notify his child’s teacher and Administration and we will oblige those requests. Generally, teachers will notify you when a child has fallen below a C- average.

SUBJECT FAILURE

Students in Middle School who fail a subject on the last marking period of the year will be required to attend Summer School in that specific area. Students who receive a D in the various subject areas are recommended to attend Summer School as well.
